Quantifier Scope in German: An MCTAG Analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Relative quantifier scope in German depends, in contrast to English, very much on word order. The scope possibilities of a quantifier are determined by its surface position, its base position and the type of the quantifier. In this paper we propose a multicomponent analysis for German quantifiers computing the scope of the quantifier, in particular its minimal nuclear scope, depending on the syntactic configuration it occurs in.

An MCTAG with Tuples for Coherent Constructions in German
This paper introduces the notion of tree tuples to MCTAG, an extension of Tree Adjoining Grammar (TAG). Using tuples and node sharing we can provide an empirically broad and linguistically sound analysis of coherent constructions and scrambling in German, without the compulsive use of traces or the additional descriptive means in former MCTAG approaches.
متن کاملFrom Partial VP Fronting towards Spinal TT-MCTAG
In the face of partial fronting phenomena in German, we introduce spinal TT-MCTAG, a new MCTAG variant that integrates features of LTAG-spinal and TT-MCTAG. Using spinal TT-MCTAG we arrive at flat syntactic structures which make available a consistent account for the data.
متن کاملComplexity, Parsing, and Factorization of Tree-Local Multi-Component Tree-Adjoining Grammar
Tree-Local Multi-Component Tree-Adjoining Grammar (TL-MCTAG) is an appealing formalism for natural language representation because it arguably allows the encapsulation of the appropriate domain of locality within its elementary structures. Its multicomponent structure allows modeling of lexical items that may ultimately have elements far apart in a sentence, such as quantifiers and Wh-words. Wh...
متن کاملFactorizing Complementation in a TT-MCTAG for German
TT-MCTAG lets one abstract away from the relative order of co-complements in the final derived tree, which is more appropriate than classic TAG when dealing with flexible word order in German. In this paper , we present the analyses for senten-tial complements, i.e., wh-extraction, that-complementation and bridging, and we work out the crucial differences between these and respective accounts i...
متن کاملDeveloping a TT-MCTAG for German with an RCG-based Parser
Developing linguistic resources, in particular grammars, is known to be a complex task in itself, because of (amongst others) redundancy and consistency issues. Furthermore some languages can reveal themselves hard to describe because of specific characteristics, e.g. the free word order in German. In this context, we present (i) a framework allowing to describe tree-based grammars, and (ii) an...
